2013 Portland Museum of Art Biennial: Piece Work
The 2013 Portland Museum of Art Biennial: Piece Work (on view October 3, 2013 – January 5, 2014) brought together 30 artists with strong Maine ties under the central theme implied in the show's title — to evoke the traditional labor-based notion of artisans and factory workers who are paid “by the piece.”
Rather than offering a traditional catalogue for Piece Work and its concurrent video-projection exhibition Amy Stacey Curtis: 9 walks, the PMA expanded on the show's thesis with a stylish collection of 29 different 4 x 6 in. artist cards. An essay booklet by Jessica May, PMA Curator of Contemporary and Modern Art, accompanies the set.
