Token Cuff Bracelet
This simple sand cast bronze bracelet wears in beautifully with time. The cuff comes in two widths, thin and thick, and could be worn by men or women. Each cuff is handmade by Cat Bates in Portland.
Cat Bates cut the pattern for this cuff out of wood, using a table saw and router. It is sand cast in house as a straight bar. The ends are ground and lightly polished to ensure comfort, then it is hand-forged to shape.
If you are worried about getting the right size, please contact me prior to ordering. Please do not try to re-size this cuff. With normal wear and tear it will last for generations, but if it is bent wrong it could snap.
Cat Bates grew up spending his summers on Monhegan Island and his winters in a rustic cabin in Palermo, Maine. The brutality and beauty of nature became an essential part of his aesthetic and world view. Both of his parents were artists who gave him access to tools and materials, encouraging him to make toys and playhouses for himself.
At thirteen, he started to study metalsmithing and he began working as a professional jeweler in 2004, and then graduated from Maine College of Art in 2009 with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design.
His designs often reference hardware found in sailboats, as well as natural forms and geometry. He envisions his jewelry being worn everyday, the patina changing over time.
