Charles Codman: The Landscape of Art and Culture in 19th-Century Maine

Charles Codman (1800-1842) apprenticed for Boston painter John Ritto Penniman and lived his whole life in Portland, Maine, where he painted some of the best-known landscapes of the region during that era. This PMA exhibition (November 7, 2002 — January 5, 2003) brought together many of his works for a retrospective.
